Red Lentil Patties – A Nutritious & Protein-Packed Delight

These red lentil patties are packed with plant-based protein, fiber, and bold flavors! Soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, they make a perfect healthy snack, vegetarian burger alternative, or a delicious side dish.

Ingredients

  • 250 g red lentils
  • 700 ml water
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 60 g cottage cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons oatmeal
  • Salt and spices to taste (e.g., cumin, paprika, or black pepper)
  • Olive oil for frying

Procedure

  1. Cook the Lentils:
    • Rinse the red lentils under cold water.
    • In a pot, bring 700 ml of water to a boil, add the lentils, and simmer for about 15 minutes until soft.
    • Drain any excess water.
  2. Prepare the Mixture:
    • In a mixing bowl, blend the cooked lentils with garlic, onion, cottage cheese, egg, oatmeal, salt, and spices using a hand blender.
    • Let the mixture rest for 15 minutes to thicken.
  3. Shape & Fry the Patties:
    • Form the mixture into small patties.
    • Heat olive oil in a pan and fry the patties on medium heat until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  4. Serve & Enjoy:
    • Serve warm, either on their own or as a side dish with fresh salad, yogurt dip, or inside a wrap!

Final Tip

For an even healthier, oil-free version, bake the patties in the oven at 200°C (392°F) for about 20 minutes, flipping halfway through. You can also add grated carrots, zucchini, or chopped herbs for extra flavor!

Enjoy! 🌿✨🍽️
