Vanilla Rolls – A Buttery, Nutty Delight

These vanilla rolls are a classic treat, combining the richness of butter and nuts with the delicate aroma of vanilla. Their melt-in-your-mouth texture and golden-brown crispiness make them perfect for any festive occasion or as a sweet indulgence with your afternoon tea.

Ingredients

  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 280 g plain flour
  • 70 g powdered sugar
  • 110 g ground nuts (almonds, walnuts, or hazelnuts)
  • 210 g butter (softened)
  • 2 egg yolks

Procedure

  1. Prepare the dough: Sift the flour and powdered sugar into a mixing bowl. Slice the vanilla pod lengthwise and scrape out the seeds. Mix the seeds into the flour.
  2. Add the ground nuts and egg yolks, stirring to combine.
  3. Gradually incorporate the softened butter, kneading until a smooth dough forms.
  4. Wrap the dough in cling film and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F).
  6. Shape the chilled dough into small rolls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the rolls turn a light golden brown.
  8. While still warm, gently roll the baked rolls in vanilla-scented powdered sugar and let them cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

Final Tip

For an extra vanilla boost, store the rolls with a vanilla bean in the container—it will infuse them with even more aroma over time!

Enjoy! 🥐
